Lost - Sawyer

Another Lostee - hope to do a few more of these soon. This needs a bit of touching up I think but I'm pretty happy with the likeness, this guy was a lot more difficult than I expected!

I've put some more work into this digital painting, still think I might have a go at painting it traditionally too - love to try and get that silk painted realistically!

From the ridiculous to the sublime...

Digital sketch, I'm thinking I might get a tall, narrow canvas and paint this really big. It's Keira Knightley from the movie Atonement, and I wanted to caricature her in a way that kept the beauty and didn't go down the 'skin and bones' route.

Manson colour version

Here's the colour version - I mucked about with acrylics to try for a different feel for this subject. The background is very dilute blue paint slapped on with a big brush in a wash and then a lot of pale red slapped on and allowed to run down the board (I rotated it to paint the figure as i wanted blue at the top and red below). Then I dry brushed black over it to pick up the texture of the thick gesso I primed the board with.

For the figure I used more watered down acrylic again, a bit like water colour in some ways, with similar colours to the background.

This is a pencil sketch for the NCN monthly competition, hopefully I'll get time to do a colour version soon. Haven't done much recently, been on holiday and my Open University course is taking up a lot of free time! Must get back on the horse quickly!
